Nature Conservation Society was founded to support the newly formed Palamau Tiger Reserve in Jharkhand, reduce animal poaching, and bring the interests of forest-dwelling communities and ecological preservation into harmony.

From that beginning, the society expanded into biodiversity conservation, watershed and natural resource management, environmental awareness, tribal upliftment, and a wider consulting practice.
